Golden Nugget

December 2, 3, 4

Review By: Sadie

My husband thought that a trip to Vegas was a great idea, but had no clue how to convince me to go along with it. When Patty booked some dates out there, on our anniversary, my husband knew he had his way to get me there! We originally purchased tickets for Friday and Saturday only, because we were certain that Brook could not get Monday off work. I was disappointed, but two nights of Patty is better than none! Not to mention, an old friend of ours, Sherilyn, lives out in Vegas, and it would be great to see her again. (And my husband knew that would keep my busy while he visited the slots!)

The flight booking was up to my husband, and I did our hotel. We checked in online and my husband gave me my boarding pass to leave, but never gave me any of my returning information. When we arrived at the gorgeous Golden Nugget, as we checked in, my husband asked the clerk if they had been able to get him the extra few days. They replied that yes, they had, and I was puzzled. It turned out my husband worked with his boss and got Monday off and he went and bought us tickets to the Sunday show too!

We spent much of Thursday night at the slots and enjoying the beautiful scenerey of the busy place called "Sin City". Friday was a great time to catch up with our old pals Sherilyn, Anthony, and Sherilyn's sister Eve. Eve works for the Golden Nugget, and she was able to show us all around and teach us a few tricks on the slots that she had learned. Golden Nugget had been kind enough to let her have the entire time off so she could attend the shows with us!

Unfortunately, we didn't meet any of the friends off PLN that we had hoped we could. Being it was our anniversary and we finally had a chance to see old friends, we took all our spare time to play catch up.

When showtime came on Friday night, I was thrilled! Patty and the band sounded absolutely superb. I won't pretend that I remember the full set list from the shows, but there were a few that just took our breath away - all three nights! Some of the uptempos like "Keep Your Distance" and "Elvis" were some of the best of the night! The crowd wasn't very receptive on the last night, but the other two crowds seemed to be pretty appreciative of Patty and the band- especially the second night!

Patty threw in a couple oldies that thrilled Sherilyn, Anthony and Eve- "Here I Am" (which sounded just amazing!) was a tearjearker for us all, as was "My Old Friend the Blues", which is a song that just tugs at my heartstrings. I love how Patty has no backup vocals on that song. It's great on the cd, great to have seen on tv, but nothing beat hearing her sing it live! Eve had brought along a friend with us, and it was her first time seeing Patty in concert. When Patty started "Friend...Blues", Doreen turned to Eve and Sherilyn and whispered "I have never seen someone get so into their music, a few times I thought she was going to cry!!".

Patty's set list, from what I can remember was basically the same it had been all year long, except one show she did "Pretty Little Miss". I had been hoping for a few extra songs, but, maybe we'll get that next year!

The weekend was packed with three wonderful, very memorable Patty Loveless concerts that we were able to share with some of our closest friends on a very special night for us. I couldn't think of a better time that we've had this year, and it was a great way for us to kick off our Holiday Season. Patty and her band were nothing but the sweetest to all of us. We had the pleasure of meeting everyone, including Patty, a few times, and we were so gracious that they took time out for us. As for our friend Doreen, who as we said, attended her first show this weekend, well, she's busy listening to all the new Patty cds she bought at the concert, and planning on coming out our way to see Patty live next year.

Guess it just goes to show that it only takes one time to see Patty live before you are instantly hooked!
