Indian Ranch

Webster, MA

August 7, 2005

Review By: Barbara

On the night before the concert, Tammie, Cole and I went to the Warwick Mall. They were quite excited about the ‘no sales tax on clothing’ law here, and we had a blast going into many of the stores. We decided to bring some sandwiches and have lunch at Indian Ranch on Sunday before the concert. The venue has a lake and lots of picnic tables and grills; your ticket purchase allows you to use the facilities from eight a.m. on. We met Mike D., Miles, Dave, Roger, and Lyle, all of whom hung out with us until show time. We were in the fifth and last row of white seats, which was nice and close to the stage, and no one was hanging over our shoulders or kicking our chairs! Okay, here I go with the clothes thing again. Martin- blue shirt, tan shorts; Guthrie-black Tshirt and jeans; Jimmy-black shirt and pants; Pete-black and red shirt, jeans; Kylie-black tank top, jeans; Deanie-blue Patty Loveless shirt (same one I was wearing) and jeans; Troy-plaid shirt with jeans; and Patty wore blue jeans with a brown top under a sheer brown bolero with turquoise beading. Here is the set list:

1.Keep Your Distance
2.Last Thing On My Mind
3.You Don’t Seem To Miss Me
4.You Can Feel Bad
5.She Drew A Broken Heart
6.Dreamin’ My Dreams
7.My Old Friend the Blues
8.Never Ending Love
9.Someone I Used To Know
10.Boys Are Back In Town
11.Daniel Prayed
12.Grandpa
13.Big Chance
14.Nothin’ Like the Lonely
15.On Your Way Home
16.Lovin’ All Night
17.Blame
Encores:
18.Nothin’ But the Wheel
Elvis

After “Last Thing” Patty said it was good to be back at Indian Ranch. In 2003 she was afraid the venue was going away, and she’s glad it’s still here. It’s a great spot. Then she said they were going to do some hard core country.

While the stage was being set up for the acoustic set, Patty said that she and Emory have been making music together for twenty years. Before “My Old Friend the Blues” Patty said it’s a Steve Earle song, and was on his first record. They were label buddies. On the album, Dwight Yoakam sings “Never Ending Love” with Patty, and she said they were both born in Pikeville, Kentucky. Troy did a great job on that as well as “Someone I Used To Know”. Patty said she had a request today for “The Boys Are Back In Town” from the parents of her former guitarist Lance, who is now with Randy Travis.

Patty said she comes from a huge family, and she knows how much grandparents mean. She and Emory have been married for sixteen years, and she has heard many stories of “Papa” Cochran, whose picture is on “Mountain Soul”. This, of course, led to my favorite, “Not the Grandpa That I Know”.

In the song “Pretty Little Miss” the gal is twelve; she’s fourteen now and ready to get married, in “Big Chance”. Kylie forgot the words and Patty faked a punch! Another of my favorites, “Wheel”, was the first encore number, followed by “Elvis”.

We waited by Patty’s bus, talked with Troy, waved at Deanie and Guthrie. Dave brought Patty out of the bus to go to the meet and greet and said he’d bring her back up when it was over. That was very nice of him. Mike D. finally got his picture with Patty! Bob and I got a picture with her, and Bob had her sign the picture Cole had taken of him and Patty on Friday night. Miles and Tammie also had their pictures taken with her.

Patty Loveless looks great on stage, in photos, in videos; but she is even prettier close up in person. Even after what must have been an exhausting weekend- Friday night in Albany, two shows Saturday in Pennsylvania, and Indian Ranch on Sunday- she was glowing. As always, she gave 200% of herself.

Epilogue:

Bob and I were very happy to have Tammie and Cole stay with us on their visit to New England. I hope they had as much fun as we did. They were just great, and ladies, you are very welcome in our home at any time. Just call first so we’ll be home! If we’re not at a Patty concert, we’re out on the Harley!
