This was my 6th and final Patty road trip for 2004. I discovered Patty Loveless' music in 1988 and untill this year had seen her 8 times in concert, I decided early this year I would go to see her every chance I got, and hope to do the same next year. I would first say thanks to Patty, David, the Band and Crew for bringing class, style and grace to Country Music out there on the road, also to all the Loveless Lunitics for all the good conversations on the boards, and to Nicole for maintaining your great website. In the 2 years since I discovered PLN on the internet I have never read or wrote so much since I survived High School, Thanks to all.
Here is the set list :
"Tear-Stained Letter"
"You Can Feel Bad"
"Nothin' But The Wheel"
"You Dont Seem To Miss Me"
"You Don't Even Know Who I Am"
"The Trouble With The Truth"
"Halfway Down"
"Draggin' My Heart Around"
"Nothin' Like The Lonely"
"The Grandpa That I Know"
intermission
"The Boys Are Back In Town"
"I'll Never Grow Tired Of You"

"On Your Way Home"
"Lovin' All Night"
"Don't Toss Us Away"
"Blame It On Your Heart"
I have seen Patty at several different types of venues this year, this was by far the best,a small modern theatre about 800 seats. The sound was perfect, Patty's voice was beautiful, the band sounded great, the uptempo tunes were fun, the ballads were smooth, "Grandpa" and "Harlan" were haunting. My favorite song on this night was "I'll Never Grow Tired Of You" Patty, Marcia and Gary sang great harmony on this song, and throughout the Mountain Soul set, I also like hearing the twin fiddles play.
Before singing "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" Patty said that Oct. 10 would be 25 years since her father passed away, she dedicated it to her father, and she and the band then played "Harlan", it was the 5th time I have heard her do it in concert, and by far the best, she put all of her heart into singing that song, the humming parts were haunting, it was amazing to hear. No one that I can think of uses humming in their music like Patty does, I hope she continues to, it is different and adds a lot to a song, without taking away from the message of the song. One more thing I enjoy hearing at a Patty concert is the pedal steal, that has got to be one of the most difficult insterments to play. Thats about all I can think of for now, I look forward to 2005 and catching Patty here in the midwest, and maybe head south for a show or two.
Thanks Mike Hopkins
