Mohegan Sun Wolf Den Concert
10/12/03

What a great way to end our mini-vacation! Bob and I left Stowe, Vermont at 10:30 A.M., stopped briefly for lunch, and arrived at the Mohegan Sun at 3:30 P.M. We found Cindy and Bob at the end of the line; they had arrived just before us. A sign stated that seating would begin at 5:30, although those around us who had been there for other concerts said it would be closer to 5:45. While we waited we were able to listen to the sound check, and get close enough to see Patty. The selections for sound check were as follows:
On Down the Line
If My Heart Had Windows
Lonely Too Long
The Boys Are Back In Town
Cheap Whiskey
Daniel Prayed
The four of us were seated at the upper railing near the stage. At 7:02 the band came out, and then there was Patty! She looked fantastic in a black leather shirt-jacket with ruffled front and cuffs, worn open over a black v-neck top; black and red pants, and black boots. Her strong humming of the opening to NothinLike the Lonely got everyone's attention. They went right into Last Thing On My Mind, and Patty spoke a bit before launching into Timber. During Donít Toss Us Away she introduced Travis on steel. Garry did a good job on the George Jones parts of You Don't Seem To Miss Me. We were treated to a different-at least to me!- intro to You Donít Even Know Who I Am. Between the next songs, You Can Feel Bad and Halfway Down Patty introduced Garry and Jedd, and then introduced the rest of the band before doing a great job on the beautiful ìOn Your Way Homeî. She was really upbeat with Lovin All Night, and then talked about her Mountain Soul album. This was perfect segue to The Boys Are Back, followed by one of my favorites, Cheap Whiskey. Jedd showed off some nice vocals on Daniel Prayed, and Patty sang her version of Soul of Constant Sorrow after telling us a bit about the Down From The Mountain Tour. Pretty Little Missîalways gets the audience clapping along. Things slowed down and the mood changed as Patty let her glorious voice soar on Here I Am, a song which always moves me. She gave us a quick tutorial on the refrain to Blame and off we went, enthusiastically joining in. The set ended with I Think About Elvis, but of course we couldnít let Patty go! We were standing, clapping, chanting PATTY! PATTY! until everyone returned to the stage. It's been some time since weve seen Patty sing this next number, and I've missed it, so I was really happy that My Heart Will Never Break This Way Again was her first encore song. She finished with The Trouble With the Truth.
But this was NOT the end of the evening! We hustled to the other end of the casino, to a store called Spin Street, for an autograph and photo session. While waiting in line, Bob and I began speaking with the young ladies in front of us, and found that one of them was Chrissy (NYPattyFan). We had a great time talking with them. It's so nice to see that Pattyís fan base contains folks of every age. At last we were there, next in line! Bob had Patty autograph her photo and his On Your Way Home hat, which will now be his ëlucky golf hatí! She wished him luck on his golf game, and I took a picture of them. On stage Patty had performed very well, but up close we could see how very exhausted she was. She's had a killer schedule, and I hope she'll be able to get some rest after the CMA show, as she goes home clutching her award, of course! Positive thoughts, people!! Bob and I arrived back home around midnight, and agreed that this was a wonderful way to end our vacation.
