Review By: Cole

This show was a bit of a rehearsal- kinda like Renfro Valley was in mid-May. Word obviously had gotten out that Deanie had left the band, so I was very curious how the show would sound. During sound check, I was a little discouraged with the new fiddle player, Loretta, as she didn't seem to pick up some of the songs too well. They re did "Nothing Like the Lonely" quite a few times during sound check, leadng the sound check to last longer than ANY other soundcheck I have ever seen. It was, however, her very first night with Patty, and although she was practicing, I'm sure she was extremely nervous and the band was trying to adapt to a new player.

After a nasty storm came through, Patty took the stage and opened with "Nothing Like the Lonely", as she has all summer long. This show came after a few day break in Nashville, so she was completely rested, and sounded perfect. She did, have a little bit of a strain during "Don't Toss Us Away", which was the only flaw I noticed in her voice during the entire show. The two "old songs" were still "toss" and "Timber", which I'm hoping she swaps out for a couple others at a show soon. They took out "You Don't Even Know Who I Am" for this set list, and added in another song for the Mountain Soul set- which consisted of "The Boys are Back In Town", "Daniel Prayed", "Harlan", "Cheap Whiskey", and "Pretty Little Miss". It was definitely a treat before "PLM" to have her tell me Happy Birthday from the stage (BTW, Becky, you rock!!!!)

At times, it was noticeable that it was a little frustrating for the band to learn to play again together, but they pulled through, as they always do, and still managed to sound to the best of their ability. As usual, Jedd nailed his intro to "Halfway Down". The rest of their set list was songs they had been doing all summer long, but she did "Trouble with the Truth" for her encore this time, which she nailed.

Patty was a bit more frustrated at this show herself more than other shows...the crowd at this show enjoyed the alcohol that was served, and it showed. They were quite rowdy, and began to yell and shout during slow songs. It's always irritating when people applaud and scream during the wong part of "Harlan" (Obviously those who do not own the cd). I will say it was a better crowd than the crowd in Huntsville,AL in June who didn't really care she was up there, but the crowd was just irritating, with little to no respect for others there to enjoy the show. Out of all the shows, usually the "Mountain Soul" set is the most popular, but here it was clearly "Blame" and "Elvis", which is usually the case at a rowdy show.

Of course, the highlight of the show was going backstage to meet her....Since it was my birthday, a nice girl gave us passes to go back...Special Special Thanks to Laurie for getting us backstage!
